States Must Respect Rights in 'War on Terror'
(New York, December 8, 2006) – The outgoing United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today delivered a ringing condemnation of the world’s failure to halt the bloodshed in Darfur, Human Rights Watch said today. He also warned against violating human rights in the fight against terror, saying governments that abandon the moral high ground play into the hands of terrorists.
"To judge by what is happening in Darfur, our performance has not improved much since the disasters of Bosnia and Rwanda. Sixty years after the liberation of the Nazi death camps, and 30 years after the Cambodian killing fields, the promise of ‘never again’ is ringing hollow.

Reportar e assumir o falhanço das Nações Unidas num dos capítulos no qual assenta o objectivo principal desta organização: a defesa dos Direitos Humanos e o evitar de genocídios, para além de referir como exemplo uma situação pouco referenciada em certos meios bem pensantes esquerdistas próximos da ONU: Darfur e o genócidio assente em razões étnico-religiosas contitui por si só uma prova de honestidade. O Parcial de modo geral apoia as Nações Unidas e seus organismos, os quais tem como credíveis, mas as falhas no cumprimento dos seus objectivos, estão infelizmente à vista de todos. E agora? O que fazer com este mundo? Vamos continuar a pôr paninhos quentes paternalistas nos inimigos do Ocidente? Eu, pessoalmente, não tenho respostas.
